Just a quick note, Internext was super cool. It was even cooler to be remembered by a number of people at the show Fred Fab, the Crak Team, and more!
Fred Fab I totally didn’t recognize. Okay, to be honest I totally didn’t remember him although there was something about him that made be think we had worked together in the past. Probably his warm welcome when I joined the Pink Taco, or was it the one with The Hun? Either way, Fred Fab! From egroup! Hot damn! The dialer days. Those were crazy days of huge money.
In the early days, many places didn’t have visa or mastercard for processing online orders. The solution? Call a number and be billed per minute on your home bill while you’re connected to the site. Talk about huge money. The UK had lines that were upwards of £5 per minute. PER MINUTE! Even if it takes 5 minutes from beginning to end, that’s £15 = $30 USD for a tug. Yeah, dialers were good revenue makers 🙂
Also got into a great conversation with Christophe of Streammate as we discussed personalization and machine learning to deliver users the content they’re looking for. Personalization is a huge thing in ecommerce now so providing consumers looking for the right cam personality at the right time is a key service! We discussed the effectiveness, using NetFlix as a model of how you can use it to best build engagement and satisfy your customers. As I learned earlier, NetFlix only has about 4,000 titles. A porn site often has 10,000 or more and yet Netflix seems to have more content all because of their personlization and presentation for the customer journey.
Anyhoots! It was super cool to be able to spend some time at Internext this year. Only made possible because it was a virtual event. And yes… I feel homesick 😉
