I’m an optimist. I truly believe everything will work out. A broad statement for sure but one I’ve seen proven again and again.
What’s especially interesting is the difference between what works out and what’s perfect. I don’t believe in perfection, not do it believe happiness is a place you get to. Perfection is an abstract idea only valid in the mind of the person perceiving it at that specific point in time. Is art from the 80’s still in demand? Why would an artist’s work only be considered good after they’re dead?
What about happiness? Is it a place that you pursue? I don’t think so. I think it is something you create yourself and carry through life. You can misplace it for sure, but you can always create more. You don’t need to scrap a unicorn’s horn and sprinkle the dust over yourself. It’s truly is a state of mind. Cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness are two powerful branches of psychology dedicated to the idea that “happiness is all in your head”.
Sometimes I lose my sense of humour. Sometimes life events obscure happiness. Then I remember, fuck you if you can’t take a joke. (That’s a pin I used to wear as a tie pin when I was a grocery clerk at Mr. Grocers).
